The Spiderwick Chronicles

Director: Mark Waters

Cast: Sarah Bolger, Freddie Highmore, David Straithairn, Mary-Louise Parker

Cert: PG

A film aimed at the younger audience but one so good – in all respects – that the clear plotting, fine acting and overall feel of it will not leave adults feeling redundant.

And there really is so much going for this excellent film in which Highmore plays a boy planted in a small village after the break-up of his parents who finds a book … and within it lies the key to a world of fairies, goblins and wrongs to right.

Bolger, who is a promising young Irish lass, plays his friend-in-arms.

Just perfect!
