Winfrey lends her support to Lewis

TV talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has given her backing to upcoming British singer Leona Lewis, insisting the pop star will succeed in her bid to conquer America.

The former winner of British reality TV show 'The X Factor' was introduced on Winfrey's programme by her mentor, American Idol judge Simon Cowell, and went on to receive a standing ovation from the studio audience after a rendition of her hit single 'Bleeding Love'.

Winfrey admitted she was astounded by Lewis' talent, saying: "You're the real deal girl! Talk about a star is born!"

'Bleeding Love' is currently number one in 25 countries and Cowell is hoping his protégé will be able to replicate her success in the American charts after the release of her debut album 'Spirit' this week.
