A terrific debut for director-star Labaki with this funny, colourful and charming story about a group of women – played by first-time actresses - who gather in a Beirut beauty salon to mull over life and other matters.

Labaki said she wanted to show her troubled country from a different perspective and to pin-point the problems facing Lebanese women … in which she has magnificently succeeded.

The film was a big hit at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and deserves to be as successful elsewhere.
