Lavigne to sing 'Girlfriend' in eight languages

Singer Avril Lavigne has set herself a tough task - by promising fans she'll sing her hit track 'Girlfriend' in eight different languages.

The 23-year-old plans to add a multilingual twist to her European tour later this year and impress audiences with her grasp of non-English speech.

She says: "The song is really fast and, as other languages have more syllables than English, it will be really hard to do live."

Lavigne's European tour begins in Glasgow, Scotland, on May 26.
