Clooney ‘a staunch ally’, says Day-Lewis
Following his Oscar triumph last night, Irish actor Daniel Day-Lewis has paid tribute to George Clooney.
Clooney, his rival in the Best Actor category, had been a “very staunch ally”, said Day-Lewis.
The actor also told ABC Television he was “able to be a different father” to his sons than his father was to him and added that he was “pretty sure” they watched the ceremony.
Asked if he knew when he was good, he said: “No. I think you know when you’re OK, which is a very dangerous thing to know.
“Most work that finally has value is that you’re close to a border line, most of the time, and if you cross that border line the work has no value.”
He also said he felt a little ostentatious walking around with the Oscar.
“It’s like you’re inviting people to slap you on the back,” he said.
