The Water Horse

Director: Jay Russell

Cast: Emily Watson, Ben Chaplin, David Morrissey, Alex Etel

Cert: PG

A film adapted from a book by Dick King-Smith (he of Babe) that tries, without the soft-centre, to be a kind of E.T.

But a passable ‘monster’ film all the same, telling the story of young Etel’s discovery of a sea creature while walking the WW2 beach near his Scottish home.

He tries to hide his find and everybody else tries to get it for their own ends. It was ever thus.

It’s a pleasing little film, the creature looks good … but it’s nothing to call home about.
