Allen signs three-movie deal with Spanish producers

Film director Woody Allen has signed a three-year deal with a Spanish distribution company to finance production on three of his films in the country.

The prolific filmmaker struck the pact with the Spain-based Mediapro company after completing filming on romantic comedy 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' in the city of Barcelona last year. The movie deal will begin in 2009.

In recent years, the Academy Award winner has had to look for financiers outside the US due to the sometimes poor box office performances of his cult movies.

The 72-year-old's last hit film, 'Match Point' starring Scarlett Johansson, was financed by the UK's BBC Films and was filmed in London.
