'Atonement' a must see on DVD

Up for a ton of Oscars, 'Atonement' (Universal, €24.99) is a classic adaptation of Ian McEwan’s best-selling novel, a sweeping tragedy that takes us from 1930s Britain to second world war battle fields.

Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and Robbie’s (James McAvoy) fledgling love is shattered by the accusation of a jealous protective sister, Briony (Irish Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan and later Romola Garai and Vanessa Redgrave).

A very moving and affecting drama directed by Joe Wright, with a superb screenplay by Christopher Hampton, it tugs at your emotions and never ceases to hold your attention. Extras include director’s commentary, deleted scenes and a making of featurette.
