Arctic Monkeys dominate NME nominations
Arctic Monkeys are set to dominate this year’s NME Awards – while Amy Winehouse could end up being the biggest loser.
Winehouse, currently undergoing a stint in rehab, has been nominated for Villain of the Year alongside British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, his predecessor Tony Blair and US President George Bush.
She will also battle Pete Doherty for the Worst Dressed title.
There is some good news, however, in the form of nominations for Best Solo Artist and Best Music DVD.
Arctic Monkeys have a record seven nominations in the awards, which are voted by NME readers.
They are up for Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album and Album Artwork for 'Favourite Worst Nightmare', Best Track for 'Fluorescent Adolescent' and Best Video for 'Teddy Picker', while frontman Alex Turner is a Best Dressed contender.
Since bursting on to the music scene, the Sheffield band have notched up 15 NME Award nominations – making them the magazine’s most voted band of the decade.
The other nominees for Best British Band are Babyshambles, The Cribs, Klaxons and Muse.
Babyshambles are also contenders for Best Album with 'Shotters Nation' and Best Music DVD for 'Up The Shambles'.
Their frontman Doherty is nominated for both Best Dressed and Worst Dressed gongs.
The Worst Album award will go to either James Blunt, The Hoosiers, Mika, Britney Spears or Leona Lewis.
The winners will be announced at a London ceremony on February 28, to be broadcast on E4.
