O'Connor duet to light up Meteor Awards
Sinead O’Connor will perform a duet with Republic of Loose at this years Meteor Ireland Music Awards, it was announced today.
The two acts will take to the stage for a highly anticipated exclusive performance in Dublin’s RDS Simmonscourt on February 15.
The collaboration was formed when O’Connor, one of the most iconic and influential Irish artists of modern times, worked with band front-man Mick Pyro in a tribute to Ronnie Drew recorded recently in Windmill Lane Studios.
A host of other Irish and International artists were involved in the tribute.
The duet will be one of the highlights at the MIMAs, which will be hosted by comedian Dara O’Briain.
Previously confirmed acts include pop royalty Westlife, X Factor winner Shayne Ward, The Saw Doctors, The Coronas, Cathy Davey and British singer/songwriter Tom Baxter.
Nineteen awards will also be handed out on the night across eight categories.
O’Connor has been nominated for Best Irish Female at MIMA 2008, while the critically acclaimed Republic of Loose are previous winners at the ceremony, having scooped the Meteor Ireland Music Award Hope for 2004.
The group is currently recording its third album which is scheduled for release in March, with a full Irish tour following in the summer.
