Late R&B star Ike Turner died from a cocaine overdose, according to officials in San Diego, California.

The musician, who was once married to Tina Turner, died on December 12, aged 76.

Following a full autopsy, it was determined yesterday that drugs were the cause of his death.

Turner battled a cocaine addiction on and off from the late 1960s, which transformed him into a violent control freak, according to Tina Turner in her autobiography.

Turner's drug problems became infamous in the late 1970s amid a series of financial and legal woes; he was arrested numerous times for drug-related crimes.

During the 1990s, Turner said he had turned his back on drugs and it appeared he had been clean ever since.

Turner was buried in California last month after a star-studded memorial service.
