Bruni's mother doubts Sarkozy wedding reports

Carla Bruni's mother has doubted claims the former supermodel has wed French President Nicolas Sarkozy, insisting she would know if her daughter had married.

The couple is alleged to have exchanged vows in a super-secret ceremony in Paris last Thursday , just days after Sarkozy confirmed reports he and Bruni were engaged.

However, Marisa Bruni claims neither she nor her other daughter, Carla's sister, had any knowledge of the reported union.

Speaking on Italian radio, she said: "I have no information, nor does her sister who called me yesterday and said she had lunch with (Carla).

"Everything's possible, but we are a very close family, and that would be very strange (not to inform us)."

The beauty's mother is not the only person to cast uncertainty on the marriage reports - French Prime Minister Francois Fillon claims Sarkozy's timetable for Thursday would not have allowed time for a wedding.

He adds: "Frankly, it seems to me that the schedule on Thursday doesn't square with your rumours."

Sarkozy and the Italian stunner reportedly became a couple late last year (07), just weeks after the French President divorced his wife Celia.
