Lohan's lawyer defends champagne New Year

Lindsay Lohan saw in the New Year drinking champagne in Italy, but her lawyer says the American actress is “back on track” in terms of sobriety.

A video shows Lohan, who spent much of 2007 in and out of rehab, swigging champagne from a bottle while in Capri.

“After being handed a champagne bottle while on a dance floor in Italy on New Year’s Eve and drinking from it, the good news is that Lindsay immediately stopped, called her sponsor, and got herself back on track,” Los Angeles-based attorney Blair Berk said yesterday in a statement.

Lohan, 21, was in Italy to receive an award at the Capri Hollywood International Film Festival.

Last year, she was arrested twice on drink-driving charges, on May 26 in Beverly Hills and on July 24 in Santa Monica.
