Posh 'wanted hips' from her comeback costumes
Victoria Beckham asked that the outfits made for the Spice Girls’ comeback tour “give her hips”, fashion designer Roberto Cavalli revealed yesterday.
The Italian fashion supremo designed costumes for the Spice Girls for their comeback world tour.
He told Grazia magazine that Geri Halliwell wanted to show off her toned body while new mother Emma Bunton asked to cover up.
Cavalli said: “I met each one on their own so I could get an idea of their personality.
“I asked them about their bodies, what they wanted to show and hide, and we talked about how they had evolved in the years since they were Spice Girls.
“Then I let them view my archive and asked them what they wanted”.
He said: “We updated Geri’s iconic Union Jack dress into a corseted Swarovski crystal-studded minidress.
“Melanie B, she was very strong, very assertive. Oh my, she was very hard work,” he joked, “I had to change her outfits twice.
“She wanted shiny, body-conscious clothes, and animal prints....
“Emma was very quiet at first, but became more confident. She wanted her outfits to be more conservative and covered up.
“Because Melanie C is the main vocalist, she wanted to be more rock chick than sporty – so for her, more trousers.
“Geri wanted everything sexy and very theatrical – she wanted to show off her body.”
He said Posh Spice “was the most daring”.
He said of the star, dubbed skeletal spice for her small frame; “She wanted to experiment, to surprise and be different. Her only request was that we give her hips.”
:: Victoria Beckham has dropped out of Grazia’s Best Dressed List.
The singer turned fashion “icon” was eighth last year.
Sienna Miller takes the top spot, followed by rival Kate Moss, who was last year’s number one, and Superman Returns actress Kate Bosworth.
The top ten is completed by TV presenter Alexa Chung, actresses Keira Knightley, Kirsten Dunst, and Demi Moore, Kelly Osbourne, model Irina Lazareanu and Hollywood star Jennifer Connelly.
