The Invasion

Director: Oliver Hirschbiegel

Cast: Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Jeremy Northam

Cert: 15

A third remake of an old horror classic – Invasion of the Body Snatchers – that seems unnecessary since it brings nothing new and certainly nothing thoughtful to the original.

The original – about humans being ‘taken over’ by alien invaders – was a strong nod in the direction of the Stateside Commie obsession of the l950s. This new one is a strong nod in the direction of the exit sign.

Kidman plays a wife who figures husband Northam isn’t quite the same as before, indeed more and more people around her aren’t the same … it’s always a good idea when returning to a well established classic to try, at least, to improve upon it, which Hirschbiegel fails to do.
