Welsh singer Charlotte Church has given birth to a baby girl, it was confirmed today.

The 21-year-old Channel 4 chat show host opted for a home birth at the plush farmhouse she shares with her boyfriend and Welsh rugby international, Gavin Henson, in St Brides Major, in the Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales.

A spokeswoman for Church said: “A baby girl was born sometime on Thursday evening or possibly Friday morning. Midwives were present at the home birth.”

The spokeswoman said she had no details of the baby’s weight or name.

Henson was omitted from the Ospreys regional rugby squad for their Magners League match against Ulster last night despite predictions from his coach he would be on the bench before the game.

There was no answer on the security intercom at Church's home today.

Her mother, Maria, was seen driving into the grounds of the property earlier today.

A woman at the home of Henson’s parents, also in St Brides Major, declined to speak about the birth.

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, Church said her attempts to buy a pregnancy test in secret didn’t go to plan.

She told the magazine: “I missed a period so I had to find out if I was pregnant.

“I didn’t want to go to a chemist in case anyone saw me, so I thought I’d put on a hoodie, go to Tesco, buy a test and put it through the self-checkout.

“It all went horribly wrong. I was hanging around for ages, waiting for the medical section to clear.

“The pregnancy kit had a security tag on it, which I had to take to the counter to be removed. I couldn’t have drawn more attention to myself if I’d tried!”
