Judge sets OJ's bail at $125,000

A judge set OJ Simpson’s bail at $125,000 today in connection with allegations of kidnap and armed robbery of sports memorabilia.

The former American football star is charged over the incident at the Palace Station Casino in Las Vegas on Thursday night and faces the prospect of life in prison if convicted.

He did not enter a plea today.

During the 10-minute hearing at the Las Vegas Justice Court, judge Joe Bonaventure Jr also ordered the 60-year-old to surrender his passport, but said he would be free to travel within the US.

Simpson, wearing a blue jail uniform and handcuffs, furrowed his brow as the judge read the list of charges against him.

He showed little other emotion as the court appearance was televised live across America on several news channels.

He answered quietly in a hoarse voice and nodded as the judge laid out restrictions for his release.

Unlike his arraignment in the killings of his ex-wife and a friend in 1994, when he declared he was “absolutely 100% not guilty,” Simpson was subdued throughout the proceeding.

“Mr Simpson do you understand the charges against you?” the judge asked.

“Yes, sir,” Simpson said.

He will next appear in court for a status hearing on October 22.
