'I'm an ambassador for Judaism': Madonna

Madonna is celebrating the Jewish New Year by joking she's the world's new "ambassador for Judaism."

The pop superstar and famous Kabbalah devotee met with Israeli President Shimon Peres on Saturday during a family trip to the Holy Land.

Peres gave Madonna a copy of the Old Testament, while the singer presented the politician with a volume of Kabbalah `bible' The Book of Splendor, before announcing her commitment to Judaism - even though she isn't Jewish.

Local newspaper the Yediot Ahronot reports Madonna told Peres: "You don't know how popular the Book of Splendor is among Hollywood actors… Everyone I meet talks to me only about that. I am an ambassador for Judaism."

Another Israeli publication claims Madonna told the President:,"I can't believe that I'm celebrating the new year with you in Israel. It's a dream come true."

Madonna isn't the only big-name star spending the New Year in Israel - Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Madonna's longtime pal Rosie O'Donnell and fashion designer Donna Karan are also in the Holy Land.
