'Suicide bid' Wilson misses Venice premiere

New film 'The Darjeeling Limited' will receive its world premiere in Venice today, without its star Owen Wilson.

The Hollywood actor had been due to join co-stars Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman to promote the film, but he will remain at home in the US following his alleged suicide bid a week ago.

The 38-year-old 'Wedding Crashers' star was taken to hospital on August 26 after reportedly cutting his wrists at his Santa Monica home. His lawyer has denied reports that the actor also took a drug overdose.

On Saturday, Wilson was discharged and allowed home to recuperate.

According to reports, the actor was upset over his split from actress Kate Hudson.

The premiere at the Venice Film Festival will go ahead without Wilson. The comic tale from director Wes Anderson tells the story of three brothers who set off on a train journey across India.

Wilson plays the older brother, Francis, who organises the trip in a bid to lead the trio on a spiritual quest and heal their fractured relationship.

It features cameo performances from Angelica Huston and Bill Murray.

Owen also appeared in Anderson’s previous films 'Rushmore', 'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou' and 'The Royal Tenenbaums'.
