Hudson goes public with Shepard as ex is hospitalised

Actress Kate Hudson has gone public with her new romance as her ex-boyfriend recovers from a mysterious weekend mishap in hospital.

The star was photographed openly kissing funnyman Dax Shepard in a Malibu, California grocery store on Sunday - the same day her ex, Owen Wilson, was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital emergency room.

US tabloid reports suggest Wilson tried to kill himself, and was discovered by a family member.

With that information, Hudson couldn't have picked a worse day to go public with her new romance - a month after the actress initially denied she was dating Shepard.

Hudson is still in the process of divorcing rocker husband Chris Robinson. She split from Owen Wilson in May after a brief romance.
