Paying attention a prerequisite for ‘Inland Empire’

David Lynch’s ‘Blue Velvet’ and ‘Mulholland Drive’ exacerbated and pleased in almost equal measure. What can’t be denied is that his films are always highly watchable, if often confusing.

Paying attention a prerequisite for ‘Inland Empire’

David Lynch’s ‘Blue Velvet’ and ‘Mulholland Drive’ exacerbated and pleased in almost equal measure. What can’t be denied is that his films are always highly watchable, if often confusing.

‘Inland Empire’ (Optimum, €24.99) is a marathon endurance test for viewers, boasting even more twists and turns than usual as Laura Dern and Justin Theroux play a couple of actors whose filmic experiences are every bit as mesmerising and confusing as you’ve come to expect from the eccentric Lynch.

As always, paying attention to the action is a prerequisite, but as this is a DVD it’s worth the effort of watching the more confusing scenes a couple of times.

Extras include several interviews with Lynch.
