This drama covering the last months of the life of the great composer – played, well against the odds, by Harris – is something of a throwback to the time when Hollywood churned out bios of other great composers with decidedly mixed results.

This effort tries hard but never manages to capture the magic of the man’s life or work. It is, too, overwhelmed by distracting sidebars that add nothing to the main theme.

A CD of the music would be a better bet.
