Waitress

Director: Adrienne Shelley

Cast: Nathan Fallon, Adrienne Shelley, Keri Russell, Jeremy Sisto

Cert: 15

In many ways the story surrounding this wonderful film is more important than the film itself since director Shelley, one of the most talented of indie moviemakers, died earlier in the year.

She was building a monumental reputation with her highly individual films and this is a perfect example of just how good she was and would become.

It is the story of small town waitress Jenna (Russell) whose marriage to the ghastly Earl (Sisto) is going nowhere, as is her life, until she meets the handsome doctor (Fallon).

It’s a story about getting out, moving on, doing better against the odds and it’s told with heart and compassion and wit.

Shelley will be sadly missed.
