Actor's X-rated comment shocks viewers
Actor Rupert Everett shocked viewers today by making an X-rated comment on BBC Breakfast.
The star was discussing childhood visits to the cinema while plugging his autobiography.
He described the theatres as “dark and sexy” – then referred to an activity which couples often got up to in the back row.
Presenters Charlie Stayt and Suzanna Reid looked horrified, and reminded Everett the interview was being broadcast live to a breakfast audience.
Three viewers called the BBC to complain.
A spokeswoman said: “Rupert did make an inappropriate comment which sometimes happens on live broadcasts when we have no control over what our guests say.
“Presenters Charlie and Suzanna quickly moved him on with Suzanna pointing out that the interview was going out at 9.09am. The rest of the interview was fine.”
Everett, star of My Best Friend’s Wedding, was talking about his memoirs, Red Carpets And Other Banana Skins.
The book lifts the lid on Hollywood and Everett’s friendships with stars including Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts and Madonna.
