OK, the minus side first: we have been given what really amounts to a handful of the TV shows strung together to make it seem like a full-length feature.

But look on the plus side: it’s Homer and Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie and all those wonderful citizens of Springfield doing what they have done for years: entertaining us richly.

Here, Homer makes a mess at the plant and contaminates the local river, with the usual dire consequences … and it’s very funny: clever in its aim towards children and adults; pointed in its swipe at society in general and all those mammoth Hollywood disaster movies.

More thought has gone into the animation, the dialogue is as witty as ever.

It has to be said: It’s a great, big hit!
