Travolta gives a terrific performance in Hairspray

John Travolta in drag, and very good he is too. It’s a terrific performance in the classic tale of Tracy and Penny’s obsession with getting onto the Corny Collins Show when auditions are called to replace one of the stars.

Travolta, as the mother of the plump Tracy, steals the film as Tracy wins the audition … with all manner of things to come.

There’s blind ambition, scheming jealousy, lots of song and dance and great fun all round, thanks to a wonderful cast thoroughly enjoying itself.
