Posh: Affair claim made our marriage stronger

Victoria Beckham said today claims that her football star husband David cheated on her made their marriage stronger.

The Spice Girls’ Posh spoke for the first time about Rebecca Loos, who claimed to have had an affair with the former England captain three years ago.

Loos was Beckham’s personal assistant when he played for his former club Real Madrid.

Her comments come as the couple jet off for a new life in Los Angeles, with David set to be unveiled as an LA Galaxy player today.

Victoria, 33, told reporters: “I’m not going to lie. It was a really tough time. David and I got through it together. No one said marriage was going to be easy.

“But now we’ve come out stronger and happier. It’s even better now than when we were first married.”

Her comments came as she opened up to US fashion magazine W, announcing their arrival in the States with their raunchiest yet photoshoot.

The couple adorn the cover of the magazine with Posh in a skimpy mesh swimsuit and her husband showing off his heavily-tattooed torso, but it is the nine-page photo spread inside that will really raise eyebrows.

One shows David, 32, reclining on a bed wearing just a pair of tight white briefs. Another features Victoria in provocative pose, staring moodily into the camera and stripped down to her underwear.

Others see the couple kissing and David helping Victoria into, or out of, her suspenders.

The pictures in the August issue of W were shot in Spain by top photographer Steven Klein.

The magazine says the pair are “determined to become the new American idols”.

In an interview with the magazine Posh discusses moving to their multi-million-euro Beverley Hills villa with a pool, €75,000 home entertainment system and team of 10 security guards.

“We didn’t want anything too huge, too fancy, too ostentatious,” she said.

David confessed he was happy to let Victoria wear the trousers in their relationship, especially when it came to picking his clothes.

He said: “I’ve always had a liking towards clothes but when I met Victoria she directed me in the right way. When she tells me something doesn’t look good, I believe her. We have a connection that way.”

With England star David preparing to make his debut for football team LA Galaxy, the photoshoot is the first stage in the US launch of “Brand Beckham”.

Next week NBC airs fly-on-the-wall documentary Victoria Beckham: Coming To America, chronicling her move to Los Angeles. It was intended as a six-part reality series but has been cut to just a one-hour special.

There is little interest in soccer in the US and showbiz observers are divided over whether the couple can make it big.

But Victoria is determined to join the Hollywood A-list and already counts Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes as close friends.

In an interview to be broadcast on NBC’s Today show today, she denies Scientology gets in the way of her friendship with Cruise and Holmes.

Posh said the couple had been a source of support to her family as they prepared to move to the US and describes the couple as “wonderful” people.

She says: “There’s been so much made of the Scientology – the this, the that. They are genuinely lovely people. Wonderful family.”

She said the issue of Scientology never came up, adding: “They do their thing. We do our thing. They are a wonderful family.”

The American public will soon get a reminder of Posh’s pop career when the Spice Girls tour kicks off with three US dates this December.

The tour will open on December 7 in Los Angeles, reuniting the five-member girl group that sold millions of records in the 1990s before breaking up in 2001.
