Lennon's son: 'Rock and roll is dead'

The son of late Beatle John Lennon has blasted the current state of the music scene, insisting "rock and roll is dead".

Singer Sean Lennon is adamant the popular musical genre has lost its relevance in modern-day music, but admits he is happy to follow in the footsteps of his famous father - and isn't out to be a "pioneer".

He says: "I mean rock 'n roll is already kind of played out. I wouldn't even be doing it if my mission was to be a pioneer.

"I'm only worried about creating beautiful songs. I'm not trying to reinvent songwriting. Pop music and rock 'n roll, it's not such a vital art form anymore in the way that it was in the '60s."
