‘The Laurence Olivier Shakespeare Collection’ worth buying

‘The Laurence Olivier Shakespeare Collection’ (ITV DVD, €119.95) is well worth buying for any serious Shakespeare or Olivier student.

This seven-disc set brings together three of his finest performances, in Henry V, Hamlet and Richard III, and complements them with ‘As You Like It’, plus made-for-TV productions of ‘King Lear’ and ‘The Merchant of Venice’.

The bonus disc includes an interesting interview with Olivier — Britain’s pre-eminent Shakespearean actor — by Michael Parkinson, a fine addition to round out a superb set. For any serious drama student this is an essential purchase.
