Norton convincing as 'The Illusionist'
Edward Norton plays magician Eisenheim, whose feats attract the unwelcome attentions of Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell) who, convinced he is a fraud, is determined to unmask him in ‘The Illusionist’ (Momentum, €24.99).
Unfortunately, it’s the prince’s finacée, Sophie (Jessica Biel), who is captivated by Eisenheim, and thus begins a cat-and-mouse game as Imperial Vienna’s ace chief inspector, Uhl (Paul Giamatti), becomes involved.
The drama is well set in the 19th century Austrian capital, and the tension builds nicely, though the illusion itself is telegraphed.
Still, the plot is enjoyable enough, Biel looks gorgeous and Norton is convincing.
