The British do make some curious little films, with the least likely plotlines. And quite often, as here, they work to perfection.

The story concerns a group of enthusiasts who grow vegetables on a quiet plot of land. But there’s much more to the story than that: we find ourselves in today’s Britain of asylum seekers and dubious business interests with an eye on the valuable real estate and a fight to preserve the old traditions.

It’s a super little film, full of rich characters and with a gentleness to it that’s utterly charming.
