Hannibal Rising disappointing thriller

Hannibal Lecter returns in Hannibal Rising (Momentum, €24.99), a prequel about the serial killer’s early years.

It’s a far cry from the brilliant Silence of the Lambs, and proves it’s time to end the series before it becomes even more tiresome.

Author Thomas Harris wrote the screenplay for this less than absorbing work.

Gaspard Ulliel plays Lecter, but his teenage character lacks the malevolence we have come to expect.
