Top dancers to pass on skills in Dun Laoghaire

Colourful dancers will brighten up south Dublin today with an array of mesmerising performances.

Scores of budding performers are due to descend on Dun Laoghaire for a series of outdoor dance workshops.

The event will open at midday with a performance by Spanish dancers Debla Danza, a group from Northern Spain constantly exploring new forms of dance and artistic expression.

Contemporary dance, jazz, tango and hip hop will then be among the styles taught on the Ferry Plaza.

Adults and teenagers from 14 years upwards can take part in the hour-long workshops, which give them a fantastic opportunity to learn from dance experts.

Professional teacher, performer and choreographer Nick Bryson will lead the contemporary dance workshop from 12.15pm, Brazilian Selma Daniel will teach the Latin Jazz section from 1.30pm, the tango workshop kicks off at 2.45pm, with the final dance workshop led by a Hip Hop expert beginning at 4pm.

Places will be limited to a first come first served basis.

The workshops will close with mesmerising performance by Debla Danza at 5.15pm.

The event is taking place in conjunction with the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Arts Department to highlight the Youth Dance Festival which takes place in the Pavilion Theatre next month.
