Geldof slams Live Earth concert for lack of measures

Campaigning rocker Bob Geldof has branded Al Gore's forthcoming Live Earth concert as "just an enormous pop concert" - and lacking any concrete measures to fight global warming.

The series of worldwide gigs, on July 7, have been organised to combat climate change, but the singer - who organised Live Aid in 1985 to raise money for famine victims in Ethiopia, and follow-up concert Live 8 in 2005 - has slammed the politician-turned-environmental activist for the "emptiness" of the event.

He said: "We are all conscious of global warming. I would only organize Live Earth if I could go on stage and announce concrete environmental measures from the American presidential candidates, Congress or major corporations."

Without those guarantees it's just an enormous pop concert, he reckons.

Bob also took issue with the event's name because it sounds like Live Aid, hence lots of people think he is organising it.
