Welsh singing legend Tom Jones has revealed the truth behind his wife Linda's "reclusive" behaviour - she is suffering from depression.

The 'It's Not Unusual' singer's spouse of 50 years rarely attends any of the star's concerts and even missed out on Jones' knighthood at London's Buckingham Palace last year (06).

In Gwen Russell's forthcoming biography on the singer, entitled Arise Sir Tome Jones, the star admits his wife's shyness is related to her illness.

He says: "She's a shy person. She is reclusive.

"She doesn't like that word so I shouldn't really use it but she knows she has a depression problem if she doesn't watch herself. But she talks about it and says it runs in her family.

"Her father was a bit like that, apparently, and her grandmother. Sometimes she can't get out or doesn't want to meet people.

"When we are talking together, you wouldn't know."
