Former British royal Sarah Ferguson has hit out at socialite Paris Hilton for refusing to take responsibility for her upcoming spell in jail.

Hilton will spend 45 days in a California correctional facility after she was found guilty in court on Friday for violating a probation order and driving with a suspended license.

The 26-year-old claimed she would not have been driving if she'd known her license had been suspended - and blamed her publicist Elliott Mintz for telling her her license was only suspended for 30 days and that she could still drive for work-related matters.

However, The Duchess Of York Ferguson insists Hilton needs to stop relying on others and start accepting her status in the public eye comes with responsibilities.

Ferguson said: "When I married a prince, you wake up in the morning and you have to know the minute you step out of that door you have to know the ramifications of your actions.

"So it's bad luck... Well, it's not actually. You're a public figure, so you've got to take responsibility for that."
