I Will Always Love You, by Whitney Houston, is a top choice for the first dance at weddings.

The ballad became a romantic favourite after it was featured in hit film The Bodyguard.

Endless Love by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross was second.

Angels by Robbie Williams and Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton were voted into joint third place.

The survey of over 1,000 adults was carried out in the UK by The Wedding TV Channel.

Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers and When A Man Loves A Woman by Percy Sledge also proved popular.

The poll revealed that rock is also popular choice for a first dance.

Aerosmith and Savage Garden both featured in the top 10, while the top 50 included Forever by Kiss, Thank You by Led Zeppelin and I Remember You by Skid Row.

(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, from the soundtrack of Dirty Dancing, was in 25th place.

It was the choice of Julia Boggio and James Derbyshire, whose choreographed wedding dance became a hit on YouTube and has now been viewed over one million times.

Wedding TV Channel programme director Tony Prince said: “We are thrilled by the results of our poll which includes love songs old and new, alongside some very untraditional choices.

“With the rise of TV shows like Strictly Come Dancing, there is now added pressure on the bride and groom to make their first dance really special.”
