Dirty Dancing and Star Wars are the films we like to watch again and again, according to a new survey.

Women have seen cheesy Eighties classic Dirty Dancing an average of 15 times.

The Patrick Swayze movie was turned into a West End musical last year – and promptly broke box office records as female fans rushed to snap up tickets.

The Star Wars trilogy was the most watched movie by men, who have seen it more than 20 times.

The survey by Sky Movies Sci-fi & Horror channel revealed that some films are favourites with both sexes when it comes to repeat viewings.

Jaws, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator all proved popular.

Women also rated the Star Wars trilogy as their second most viewed selection, but the similarities between the sexes ended there.

Action films Aliens and Die Hard were among the top male choices, along with sci-fi film Bladerunner and mafia masterpiece The Godfather.

Women are more likely to watch Grease, The Sound of Music, Pretty Woman and It’s A Wonderful Life over and over again.

The survey was commissioned to mark Sky’s sponsorship of the Sci-Fi London film festival.

Festival director Louis Savy said: “It’s great to see these classic films are watched time and time again.”
