We have here an interesting and interweaving tale of family life – often in turmoil – in which the excellent Allen emerges with a performance of note.

Costner, playing a former baseball star turned DJ, happily sits back and lets his co-star get on with it, playing the mother, whose husband has vanished, with a clutch of daughters, a cutting manner and a love life that causes everyone concern.

The plot cleverly weaves stories concerning the daughters throughout the central theme to bring us a neatly-constructed and enjoyable drama.
