The White Stripes to play all 50 US states

The White Stripes will celebrate their 10th anniversary as a band by completing a dream of performing in all 50 US states.

The duo has finalised plans for a North American summer tour and will include a handful of bizarre venue stops - just so they can boast they have played a show in every state.

"For the 10th anniversary of this band, we're going to play the 16 states we've never played before," said frontman Jack White.

"We're also going to play every province and territory in Canada - I don't know if it's ever been done. We're going to play all the places we haven't been, and that's really appealing to us."

The dates get underway with a show in Portland, Maine in July and will include a two-night stint at New York's fabled Madison Square Garden.
