Gallagher festival to kick off in Donegal

The musical tribute to Irish Rock 'n Blues legend Rory Gallagher is set to take place once again in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal this May.

The musical tribute to Irish Rock 'n Blues legend Rory Gallagher is set to take place once again in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal this May.

The festival will run from Thursday May 31continuing through to Sunday June 3, 2007.

"The event has been growing in popularity in recent years and this year will feature some 63 events at 18 venues over the four-day period, attracting music fans from throughout Europe, USA, Australia, UK and Ireland," read a statement from the organising committee.

Rory Gallagher was born in Ballyshannon and went on to pioneer the Irish rock music movement performing on the world stage for some 25 years.

Among the headline acts appearing at this year’s Tribute Festival is the Eric Bell Band, with the renowned frontman Eric Bell - the original Guitarist with the legendary Thin Lizzy.

The highly rated Aimon featuring Samuel Eddy appears all the way from Mississippi, USA while the Boo Boo Davis Band brings a raw blues sound from the home of blues in Delta.

Stage Collision from Holland will make their first appearance at the Tribute Festival, while returning are one of the favourites Sinnerboy from Manchester whose "passion is rarely challenged in portraying the music of Rory Gallagher".

More than 4,000 people are expected to converge on the town of Ballyshannon to participate in the many open-air free concerts, the workshops, busking, nightly indoor and outdoor concerts, late-night pub gigs and the gala events that will take place at the Rory Gallagher Theatre and outdoor also at Rory Gallagher Place.
