Reign Over Me

Director: Mike Bender

Cast: Don Cheadle, Adam Sandler, Liv Tyler, Jada Pinkett-Smith

Cert: 16

Sandler, usually to be found in comedies (where he usually manages to be charmless) turns in an excellent serious performance in what is a heart-pulling drama.

He plays a man whose life falls apart when he loses his family in the 9/11 tragedy. He comes across an old college room-mate (Cheadle) and their friendship and mutual support lies at the heart of the film.

It’s certainly a serious attempt at understanding the meaning of support and friendship but when the set-piece hankies-at-the-ready moment arrives we have somehow lost interest in a plot that has long lost its way.

Star Rating: 3/5
