Jack Lord was a cut above the rest as Steve McGarrett, an Hawaiian cop whose exploits with an elite unit reminded us that not only did the sun shine and the women look gorgeous in that state, but the locals committed crime on a grand scale just like anywhere else, and Stevie and his team were always hot on their heels.

Hawaii-Five-O Season 1 (Paramount, €45) also gave us the catchphrase “Book him, Danno,” addressed to the hapless sidekick, Danny Williams (James MacArthur).
