British classical group G4 have split because of bitter infighting.

The four-piece, tenors John Ansell and Ben Thapa and baritones Matthew Stuff and Mike Christie, were discovered on British TV talent show The X Factor in 2004.

G4 went on to huge international success, releasing three platinum-selling albums - but have gone their separate ways, because they can't get on.

Thapa says: "We did not want to drag on for another couple of years, growing increasingly resentful of each other. We are still friends and we want to stay friends but we won't if we carry on in G4."

Ansell adds: "We would be bitterly fighting in the back of a limo, or rowing backstage then have to put on these fake smiles for the fans and carry on as if nothing was wrong."
