Connery: 'I'm happy and healthy'

Sean Connery has laughed off reports a health scare was to blame for his no-show at a Scottish event in New York on Monday, insisting he was just undergoing a check-up.

The former James Bond actor, 76, was scheduled to be the guest of honour at the Dressed To Kilt party, which was attended by celebrity guests including 'Lord of the Rings' star Billy Boyd and singer Sandi Thom.

When Connery failed to turn up on Monday, it prompted speculation he was suffering from ill heath following his successful operation to have a tumour removed last year.

However, Connery proved he was fit and healthy when he and wife Micheline hosted a charity dinner at Manhattan's Alba House the following day.

He assured guests he had just fulfilled a long-standing appointment for a health check.
