Simpson book rights to be auctioned off
OJ Simpson's manuscript to his scrapped book If I Did It is to be auctioned off, a Los Angeles judge ruled on Tuesday afternoon.
The decision by Judge Gerald Rosenberg follows his order that, if it is ever published, proceeds from the book must help pay off the $33.5m (€48.9m) Simpson owes following a 1997 civil case for
wrongful death.
If I Did It hypothetically places Simpson at the scene of the 1994 murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
The proceeds of the book's sale would be given to the families of Brown and Goldman.
Lawyers for Goldman's family called Tuesday's ruling a victory because it deprives Simpson from a major source of potential income.
The auction, to be carried out by local authorities in Sacramento County, California, could take place as early as next week.
