It’s David Lynch, so you have to concentrate … very, very hard. There’s no slacking when you’re presented with a David Lynch film.

This one concerns itself with the re-making of a film the original of which was said to be cursed – members of the cast passing on in mysterious circumstances.

Then the film – the Lynch one, do keep up – switches to inside the head of Dern, one of the film’s – the re-make, still there? – stars.

Shot in video-doc style, EMPIRE is a confusingly thoughtful film that has a hard job carrying you along with it.

But, hay; it’s a David Lynch film!
