Bono receives civil rights award

The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) is America's oldest and largest civil rights organization.

The Chairman's Award, which is bestowed in recognition of special achievement and distinguished public service, was given to Bono in recognition of his humanitarian efforts.

Oscar winners Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson took awards for, respectively, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, the same prizes that they won at the Academy Awards.

'Ugly Betty' won for Best Television Series.

'The Pursuit of Happyness', starring Will Smith and his son, took Best Picture, and Djimon Hounsou was the winner of Best Supporting Actor for 'Blood Diamond'.
