Actress's fiance unsure about casting her in film

Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz’s fiance was reluctant to cast her in his new film because he was afraid it may hurt their real-life romance, a Hong Kong magazine reported today.

Director Darren Aronofsky was quoted in the March edition of Prestige magazine as saying that at first he did not want to consider Weisz, with whom he has a son, for his new sci-fi movie The Fountain.

“I wasn’t interested in casting Rachel because I have a relationship with her and you know it’s a gamble,” said Aronofsky, who also directed Requiem for a Dream.

“Either the relationship would be over or the relationship would be fine. So why risk something like that?” he said.

Weisz said she and Aronofsky were able to keep their personal and professional lives separate while shooting The Fountain, which also stars Hugh Jackman.

“Who we are in our work lives and who we are in our private lives are quite different. I met the director and he met the actress. They’re different parts of our identities,” she said.

Weisz said she Aronofsky tested her acting skills, calling the collaboration a “great experience”.
