Shilpa tells Jade to expect tolerance
Jade Goody, who triggered a racism row in reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother, will find India a country of tolerant and cultured people, according to her nemesis on the show, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.
Goody, who is in New Delhi on a four-day visit, has not contacted Shetty, said Shetty’s publicist Dale Bhagwagar today. “Shilpa says that India is full of very tolerant and cultured people and everyone is welcome.”
Shetty won the contest after being confined in a house for about three weeks with other participants including Goody, who outraged the public and sparked allegations of racism after she called Shetty’s cooking of Indian food untrustworthy and mocked her accent.
“Shilpa doesn’t hold grudges or animosity against anyone. She has moved on after Big Brother,” said Bhagwagar.
The Indian Tourism Office had placed advertisements in several British newspapers inviting Goody to experience the healing nature of India.
Goody said she was in India on a private visit.
She became famous after appearing on the non-celebrity version of Big Brother and has earned an estimated £8m (€11.9m) through television and magazine appearances, an autobiography and an exercise video.
